Social recruiting tools have transformed the role and image of talent acquisition. Twitter, LinkedIn, Foursquare, and Facebook are go-to platforms that provide job seekers and employers the ability to connect. But there’s more, so much more. Recruiters and employers can increase their qualified talent pool by implementing visual strategies.

Video and images have their own platforms – from Pinterest to YouTube – if you’re not recruiting with these tools you’re missing out. Believe it or not, using video saves you time and money. Once the initial investment is made, the time and cost will decrease with subsequent campaigns. Qualified content garners more leads and candidate interactions because it can be reused, repurposed and upcycled.

Through Pinterest boards, employee testimonials, “day in the life” scenarios, webisodes, postisodes and infographics – employers across the globe are able to share their employees’ powerful stories and experiences through visual imagery as a recruitment and employer branding tool.

At the Social Recruiting Strategies Conference this July 23-25th in Chicago, Casey Sixt will showcase how organizations are using visual content to engage and connect with employees and applicants, as well as feature a few tips on cultivating a great sound bite and a compelling board on Pinterest.

Kasey Sixt has been an innovative leader in the recruitment, retention and employee communications realm for the past twenty years. She has produced a multitude of award-winning multimedia recruitment campaigns, interactive projects, photo shoots and videos across a multitude of industries. She also worked in the trenches of the Hollywood/independent film industry and has worked on a multitude of short and feature film projects. Her understanding of the constantly changing social surfaces and hands-on knowledge of content curation has made her a sought-after producer, speaker and employer branding pro.

Join us this July for the Social Recruiting Strategies Conference. #SRSC is a leading Social Recruiting Conference, with case studies. It gathers leading Employers, HR and Recruitment Industry professionals, to passionately discuss and practically demonstrate the impact of Social Media in Talent Acquisition Strategies and Employer Branding. Early Bird discounts available through Friday, May 10th. Reserve your spot today!

This week the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) reports that companies may make corporate announcements via social media outlets like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn in compliance with Regulation Fair Disclosure (Reg FD)…as long as companies inform investors beforehand of the URLs where announcements will be made.

The SEC’s report of investigation provides clarity after an inquiry by the Division of Enforcement into a post by Netflix CEO Reed Hastings on his personal Facebook page stating that Netflix’s monthly online viewing had exceeded one billion hours for the first time. The Facebook post by Hastings caused the company’s stock price to fluctuate. Neither Hastings nor Netflix had previously used his Facebook page to announce company metrics, and they had never before taken steps to alert investors that Hastings’ personal Facebook page might be used as a medium for communicating information about Netflix.

Recognizing that there has been market uncertainty about the application of Regulation FD to social media, the SEC issued the report of investigation pursuant to Section 21(a) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934.

Regulation FD requires companies to distribute material information in a manner reasonably designed to get that information out to the general public broadly and non-exclusively. It is intended to ensure that all investors have the ability to gain access to material information at the same time.

In it’s release this week, the Securities and Exchange Commission confirms that Regulation FD applies to social media and other emerging means of communication used by public companies the same way it applies to company websites.

However, the report of investigation explains that although every case must be evaluated on its own facts, disclosure of material, nonpublic information on the personal social media site of an individual corporate officer — without advance notice to investors that the site may be used for this purpose — is unlikely to qualify as an acceptable method of disclosure under the securities laws.

The power of LinkedIn lies in the ability to leverage the networks of your company, colleagues, employees and their connections to find the best talent. With 161 million professional profiles and more than 2 million company pages, LinkedIn is the biggest social media destination for professional networking. Developing a community of qualified individuals who follow your company and engage with your employees on LinkedIn is essential to recruiting candidates.

Thousands of companies are usingLinkedIn Career Pages as a powerful way to showcase their brand and become an employer of choice. When candidates are more engaged, more connected with companies, and better able to find their dream jobs, everybody wins. The goal is to design a page that’s simple and laser-focused on capturing candidates’ attention as soon as they hit the page. This past fall, LinkedIn upgraded the Career Pages design to make it easier for companies to show off your company’s unique employer brand via a larger banner image and tagline, focus on personalized jobs and content modules to allow sharing of videos, testimonials, text content and more.

Taking part in LinkedIn group discussions and sharing interesting content, as well as current openings, will bring a new audience back to your company page and eventually to your career or jobs site. You can also promote your openings on relevant industry groups to get your jobs in front of the right candidates.

For some examples, check out these company pages: American Express, Unilever and GSMI.

Not only does Facebook have the most members of any social networking service, its members spend an average of 405 minutes per month on the site. Nielsen reports that 23% of all online hours are spent on Facebook.

Facebook is a giant network, so it is important to carve out your own company space. Most large firms have active company pages on Facebook, as do many smaller companies.

If a company already has a page, its main challenge is finding a balance between marketing outreach and recruiting. Some companies have a separate careers page (i.e. Verizon Wireless and Accenture). Having a dedicated careers tab on your company page makes it easy for candidates to find your open positions. Candidates who “like” your page will easily see what jobs are open at your company and can apply without ever leaving Facebook. When your page’s jobs tab is seamlessly linked to your core recruiting platform with applicant tracking, you get your open jobs in front of all visitors on your page.

The purpose of your Facebook Page should be to give job seekers a taste of the workplace culture. If you regularly share industry-related content and prompt discussions, your company information will stay fresh in the minds of your Facebook fans. By making engagement easier, you are likely to encourage more quality candidates to show interest.

As they say, content is king. Your standard issue job posting text isn’t going to work here. Your company page must have compelling content that goes beyond the bare minimums of describing jobs and culture. Make sure your visitors feel like they received a benefit.

Building traffic on Facebook is key. First, you have to build it, but “they” won’t just come. You need to take it a step further and connect. Whether someone is referred to your page from a Facebook ad or they saw a friend liked your job posting, you have to actively develop those relationships to increase those connections. Involving employees and friends of employees helps build exposure – as long as there is real content to share.

The Internet drove a massive shift in recruitment strategies in the last decade– companies started incorporating social media into their HR strategy with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn recruiting. Mobile phones and accompanying apps represent the next major shift.

Mobile is a growing area of opportunity for companies to also engage job seekers either using text messaging, mobile apps, or mobile-enabled websites that help make reading and surfing a company’s careers page easier for those who are heavy mobile users.

Figures show that people are increasingly accessing the web via their mobile phones, making this platform a huge target for companies looking to add to their talent base. Even those companies who don’t plan to integrate a dedicated mobile app within their recruitment strategy today should ensure they are capable of supporting the platform in the future.

Join Craig Fisher this January in San Francisco where he will discuss “Mobile Recruiting & ROI”.

Craig Fisher helps people and businesses find things, and get found; new customers, top talent, better jobs, and larger audiences. He is VP of Ajax Workforce Marketing the 1st Linkedin Certified training company in North America. He also is owner and co-founder of SocialMediaTalent.com.

He does speaking and training for groups of all sizes, all over the world, including sales teams, recruiting teams, and professional organizations on Social Media and mobile strategy. Craig offers great recruiting, career, and business tips for “social animals” in his blog, www.fishdogs.com, and through his widely followed Twitter profile at http://twitter.com/fishdogs.
