The world continues to get smaller and smaller, thanks to mobile technology that slowly seems to be infiltrating every corner of the world. And every corner now includes the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. This week, British mountain climber Kenton Cool made a phone call and sent a Twitter message from the summit of Mount Everest.
Nepali mobile network Ncell installed a 3G tower at the base of Everest in October of last year and Samsung came up with the truly genius idea of sponsoring Cool to use the Galaxy S II to make the first 3G call and tweet from 29,000 feet.
@KentonCool said “Everest summit no9! 1st tweet from the top of the world thanks to a weak 3G signal & the awesome Samsung Galaxy handset!”
Now if I could only get a decent phone signal in my own house. We’ll just have to wait and see if he gets the Mayorship on Foursquare.
