Tech Week in Review: People Dig Mars, Square Teams Up with Starbucks, and More

Square — the mobile app that allows you to accept credit card payments anywhere with your iPhone, Android, or iPad — has teamed up with coffee powerhouse Starbucks, according to a recent TechCrunch report.

Starting in the Fall, Square will be the go-to payment plan for the mega-chain. Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz, will also join their Board of Directors and the company will invest $25 million in the app.

Square users will be able to find the nearest Starbucks with the Square Directory.

Video may have killed radio star, but if the Olympics and Mars Curiosity rover footage are any indication, the Internet is seriously threatening television.

According to a Mashable report, Ustream spokesperson Tony Riggins reports more than 3.2 million people watched the Mars landing last Sunday. What makes Ustream so appealing? The article suggests that its viewers ability to interact across various social media platforms, mobile devices, tablets, and streaming players, that allows more access to more people around the world.

Does not having a Facebook profile mean you could be going crazy? That might be the case, according to a recent report from The Daily Mail. According to the article, employers are “suspicious” of people who don’t have a social media account. Some possible reasons for potential employees to be concerned? A lack of a Facebook page could indicate red flags including a lack of social skills or the need to hide something. The report notes that killer James Holmes, accused of killing 12 people at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado, didn’t have a Facebook page or much of an Internet presence at all nor did he appear to have many friends in real life.
