Michele Bowman is a communications, public relations, public affairs, and community engagement professional based in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. She has over 20 years of communication and community engagement experience in the law enforcement field.
Michele currently serves as the Manager of Public Affairs and Community Engagement for the Leesburg Police Department in Leesburg, Virginia.
In addition to serving as a point person with local, national, and international media, Michele facilitates information exchange between the Leesburg Police Department and those who live, work, and visit the area. Before joining the agency, Michele spent almost four years as the Manager of Media Relations with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and 17 years with the Frederick Police Department, working as a Public Information Officer and Community Outreach Coordinator.
Michele’s expertise includes developing, implementing, and maintaining communications and outreach strategies and media relations plans; leading community meetings; coordinating outreach events; and serving as an agency spokesperson.
Michele has a Master of Science in Communication and Media Studies from Purdue University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Maryland. She has also completed the FEMA Master Public Information Officer Program and is one of 150 individuals in the United States with the Master Public Information Officer designation.
