Andrew Doyle is an internationally recognized communications expert with over 25 years of experience in emergency response. Currently the Public Information Officer for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association, he is a certified All-Hazards Type 3 PIO and holds advanced certifications in public information and crisis communications. Andrew teaches multiple PIO and Social Media courses, including FEMA's Social Media Training. across the U.S., including Puerto Rico, and volunteers annually with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. He has presented on social media and technology in emergency management at national conferences such as the National Information Officers Association, New Jersey Emergency Management Association, and Maryland Emergency Management Association. Formerly the Communications Manager for the Baltimore Firefighters Union and Social Media Manager for the Baltimore City Office of Emergency Management, Andrew has received multiple awards. A veteran of multiple disaster responses, including Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Helene, he brings a wealth of knowledge in fire, EMS, and public information. Additionally, Andrew is an independent consultant for social media and crisis communications for both government and private sectors. Outside of work, he enjoys sports, playing lacrosse, and spending time with his three children and his tortoise.

This panel will walk through best practices to ensure your team is equipped with the right protocols to help you support your community during a critical incident through coordinated, collaborative communications on your social channels.

  • What your agency can do now to prepare for a critical incident
  • What can be done with little resources and manpower to prepare and manage a critical incident
  • When to resume normal messaging after a critical incident
  • Deciding who will manage communications, where and when they will happen, and how they will be monitored
  • Understanding what your community expects from you during an event
  • Examples of what NOT to do
