Lisa Herndon

Public Information Officer
Herndon Police Department
Lisa Herndon has been with the Herndon Police Department for nearly eight years. Before joining HPD, she spent over 20 years in local broadcasting. Lisa began her radio career in 2000 at 106.7 WJFK (now called 106.7 The Fan). In her tenure there, she served in many positions, including Executive Producer of The Don & Mike Show (nationally syndicated), Producer of sports coverage for the Washington Redskins (Washington Commanders) Radio Network, and Operations Director. Lisa also served as a freelance producer and voice talent for the Washington Redskins Broadcast Network. Her most recent radio stop was as co-host of The WINC Wake Up Show with Barry & Lisa on 92.5 WINC.

With a passion for giving back to the community, Lisa often spends her time hosting community and business events, and volunteering with various non-profits. And although she is no longer on the air as a radio personality, Lisa still does freelance voiceover work for various radio stations and clients, and often teams up with her former radio partner, Barry Lee, to announce and broadcast area parades for local television and radio.

Her broadcast experience has translated into a successful career in Public Information, of which she is very proud. She currently serves as the Region 3 Director for the National Information Officers Association (NIOA). Lisa studied Broadcast Journalism at American University in Washington, DC, where she was a member and captain of the Women’s Soccer Team and a member of Phi Sigma Sigma sorority.

FUN FACT: The Town of Herndon was named after her fifth-great uncle, Captain William Lewis Herndon (U.S.N.).

Lisa Herndon’s Session

11:45 a.m.–12:45 p.m. PT — Wednesday, April 23, 2025

Telling Your Agency's Story in Non-Traditional Ways

In the digital age, social media has become a vital tool for law enforcement agencies to connect with their communities. First and foremost, we must foster transparency and share critical information when the need arises. But there is another side to social media that allows departments to showcase their agency and connect with their audience in a different way.

This session will provide strategies needed to use social media creatively and effectively to tell their agency’s story, utilizing non-traditional practices and thinking outside of their comfort zone. This can allow us to connect with those we serve on a more basic level, showing the various sides of our departments, our staff, and our responsibilities.

Participants will see how to build trust, connect, and engage with their community in meaningful ways. Real-world examples will highlight how creative social media can make a positive impact by strengthening our relationships with our respective communities. From showcasing the human side of policing to leveraging humor and creativity, we will explore innovative ways to communicate authentically with the public.
