Wendy Aguilar is an award-winning communications professional. She’s a passionate storyteller with a unique combination of communication, media, and business management skills.

As a Media & Communications Specialist with the Sacramento Fire Department, she is responsible for media relations, public information, event coordination, content production and social media management. As if that weren’t enough, most recently, Wendy decided to create a Tik-Tok account for the department, which already boasts over 117,000 followers. Some of those posts have gone viral reaching millions of subscribers.

Her experience in public relations began when she joined the Communications team at San Juan Unified School District in 2018.

Before joining the world of public relations, Wendy spent ten years as a multi-media journalist. A graduate of California State University Northridge, she worked as a television reporter, producer and anchor for CBS, ABC, CW and Telemundo affiliate stations in Arizona, California, and Texas.

But it all started in business management. Wendy spent eight years managing a financial service office in her hometown of Santa Clarita. During her time there, she became a licensed insurance agent/tax preparer and certified notary public.

Born in Guatemala, Wendy is bilingual in English and Spanish.

When the Sacramento Fire Department opened up its lateral firefighter position, its communication team turned to social media to create engaging content to promote the job! 

They created several social media post with engaging photos, video, and music that was then shared to all social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok. Not only did they receive a significantly higher number of applicants for the job, but they also increased the number of followers.
