Janis Burl

Social Media Branch Manager
TSA

Janis Burl is the Social Media Branch Manager for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).  She holds a Master of Science degree in Organizational Development & Human Resource Management from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  

Under her leadership, she acquired for TSA, a cloud based interactive social media platform and designed an online mentoring and coaching program.  This placed TSA as the first in DHS to have the Authority to Operate (ATO) an internal social media medium. Janis authored an internal leadership blog for the Agency and led the TSA Leaders at Every Level initiative in 2011, which identified the top 285 leaders within the Agency.  Before joining Strategic Communications and Public Affairs in 2018, she effectively led all Social Media efforts for the Office of Human Capital.  She was a member of the Diversity Advisory Council and participated in the Women Executives at TSA, “Why Not You?” traveling panels.   

Before TSA, Janis served in the United States Air Force.  She worked at UPS as a Package Car Driver, Business Manager, Virginia District Quality Manager and the Virginia District Training and Development Manager.  She was selected as one of the 285 exceptional Leaders in TSA and is a graduate of the President’s Management Council Interagency Rotation Program, which is a distinction that few obtain.  Janis currently resides in Springfield, Virginia.
