Elizabeth "Liz" Hoveland

Social Media Manager
Wellesley College

Elizabeth "Liz" Hoveland is no stranger to the world of higher education social media. As an undergraduate at Harvard, Liz ran @HarvardCollege on Instagram for four years, growing the account from 2,000 to 200,000 followers by changing the narrative of the account from one run and controlled by the administration to one that focuses on students and spotlights their stories. Now, as the Social Media Manager for Wellesley College, Liz creates and manages all of the content for the college on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Threads, X, BlueSky, and TikTok. She uses monthly analytics to drive her ever-evolving strategy but maintains a strong focus on student-driven and student-related content. Some of her favorite past campaigns include the annual Senior Snapshots, where 10-15 seniors are chosen from faculty/staff nominations and are interviewed about their accomplishments, "Ask an Alum," a video campaign featuring Wellesley alums, and the ever-popular #FilmFridays, which is a fully user-generated campaign featuring film photos that students have taken around campus. When not creating Canva graphics, editing short-form video, or doomscrolling her own feeds, Liz can be found working on her Masters of Library and Information Science at Simmons University and baking delicious treats for her (very grateful) coworkers.
