Lawerence Synett leads the social media team at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, which includes managing the main university social media strategy and tactics, and collaborating actively across all divisions within the global CMU community to provide expertise and coordination that brings their audiences closer together. He started his career as a print journalist, spending 10-plus years in the Chicagoland area before quick stops in the healthcare public relations realm.

Panel: Leveraging Students to Support Social Media Initiatives

This panel will explore several unique programs to showcase the variety of ways to work with students to help support an institution’s social media content and highlight day-to-day life on campus. Attendees will learn about striking the right balance between guidance and creative freedom for student workers, how/where institutions are hosting and promoting student-produced content, and how it can complement your other social media messaging.

Attendees will learn about examples including:

  • How Harvey Mudd hired a group of student photographers to create a “visual diary” of life on campus
  • How Carnegie Mellon works with students to create weekly and monthly video shorts about mental health, life on campus, and campus history
