Engaging leadership in social business strategy

Altimeter Group’s 2015 Social Business Benchmark research study shows that leadership engagement in social media has grown by 177% in just the past two years. Part of that growth can be attributed to the desire of leaders to better connect with peers, customers and employees—but much of it is driven by social strategists’ need to better integrate social media across company silos and the growing number of departments that use social for business purposes. The top 4 priorities of strategists in our research focus on integrating social with broader social initiatives and increased use of social data to inform decision-making and prove the value of social. Development of an enterprise content strategy (58%) and integrating social with existing digital programs (56%), confirm strategists are less focused on scaling social, but instead seeking ways to integrate with broader initiatives. This spread of social requires leadership involvement as strategists cross boundaries within the organization controlled by the C-Suite.
