Join the Furternity - Use mascot muscle to general school spirit on social media

Your mascot is your school's biggest cheerleader. Always upbeat, ready for a selfie and wrapped in a rich legacy, it's likely your mascot is a one-lion, one-gator or one-buckeye content machine with appeal that covers generations. This presentation will include lessons learned from a big year for the Penn State Nittany Lion mascot, which included out-of-nowhere success for the football team, Twitter verification for @NittanyLion and a bid for the 2017 class of the Mascot Hall of Fame with a subsequent domination of the five other candidates in an online fan vote. It will include best practices in strategy, content generation and influencer partnerships as well as a case study on creating a major publicity opportunity offline that pays off majorly in the social sphere. Even if you don't have a furry ambassador to enlist in your school's social media plan, this presentation will include tips appropriate for anyone looking to drum up school spirit through social media.
