John S. Murphy is the Digital Marketing Strategist at Brown University. As a member of the central Office of University Communications, he is the lead strategist and primary resource for social media and digital marketing communications.
Most recently, John played an integral role in promoting enthusiasm and inspiring donations in support of The Brown Promise, an initiative to replace all packaged loans in all financial aid packages for Brown undergraduates. John spearheaded an innovative digital marketing strategy, combining a general awareness campaign with the latest digital marketing functionality to hyper-target across a spectrum of audience segments. The planning, execution, and impact of this campaign was a tremendous success, and was awarded a CASE 2018 Circle of Excellence Award in the category "Targeted Campaigns."
Prior to his role at Brown, John was the Social Media Strategist at Plan International, a large international NGO, where he focused on content marketing and fundraising on emerging technologies. John founded a social media development agency as an undergrad at CU-Boulder in 2007, at a time when brands and businesses were "Friending" on Facebook.
