Caryn Brooks (she/her) is a communications professional who has worked for Portland Fire & Rescue for seven years. Her communications career has spanned both journalism and politics and she is proud to call herself a civil servant. After editorial staff positions at media organizations such as The Associated Press, Time Magazine, and Willamette Week, Brooks jumped to the public sector in 2011, taking on the role of Communications Director for former Portland Mayor Sam Adams. Her work for Portland Fire & Rescue spans social media and emergency response communications. She has a passion for diversity, inclusion, and equity policy, an area where she is imperfect but keeps trying. She holds a BA in English from Pennsylvania State University and completed an arts journalism fellowship at Columbia University in New York City in 2004.
